Puerto Portals is the address where Mallorca's charter market has set the standard for almost four decades. Opened in 1986, freshly curated in the two-thousands, today home to the highest density of premium charter yachts on the island. Our brokerage sits right on the Carretera Andratx — under five minutes on foot to the marina's main promenade, which means: every yacht in our charter portfolio we inspect in person, often several times a season. That proximity is the real advantage of this page — when you charter from Puerto Portals, you charter from our back yard.

When Puerto Portals is the right charter base

Two profiles benefit concretely from a charter base in Puerto Portals. Charter guests who plan the west coast as their main cruising ground — Sant Elm, Cala Llamp, Andratx, Sa Dragonera — save 30–45 minutes' transit a day compared with the Palma marinas. And demanding charters from 60 ft upward, where the marina's depth of service (tender logistics, watersports equipment, dinghy slips, premium restaurants on the quay) co-defines the charter day. Puerto Portals is by some margin the most service-rich marina on the island.

When I recommend the Palma marinas instead: for charter guests who want to alternate between yacht days and a full city programme in Palma, Marina Moll Vell — walking distance to the old town — is the more practical choice. For east-coast cruising grounds (Cala Mondragó, Cala d'Or), Palma is closer and saves you 30 minutes of transit in the morning.

The marina on a charter day

Puerto Portals is conceived as a full-day charter stage, not merely a yacht car park. Restaurants such as Tahini, Wellies and Flanigan sit right on the water at the quays — breakfast at 9 before departure, dinner after the return. A fuel station with both self-service and yacht service (Gasoil A, Super Plus 98), 24/7 security, a concierge service for ordering catering aboard, a helipad eight minutes away by car for last-minute arrivals. Handy: provisioners like Lidl Portals and Eroski are right around the corner — short-notice additions to the APA shopping done in 10 minutes.

Berth prices in high season: €80–110 per metre per day for transit berthing — the highest price bracket on Mallorca. For a 50 ft yacht (15.2 m) that works out to €1,200–1,700 in harbour costs per day for the home-marina berth alone. In most charter contracts the home-marina berth is included; guest marinas along the route you pay out of the APA. You don't recognise a charter yacht in Puerto Portals by the gloss of its hull. You recognise it by the fact that the crew greets you in year five just as warmly as they did in year one.

Day cruising grounds from Puerto Portals

Standard west day route: from Portals westward past Illetes, a stop in Cala Portals Vells (good for snorkelling, 15 minutes), on to Cala Fornells for a longer lunch anchorage with a swim, and in the afternoon either onward to Cala Llamp or back across the Bay of Palma. A classic eight-hour day with two swim stops and a relaxed run home in the afternoon light.

Ambitious west day: an early 9 a.m. start, a direct course to Sant Elm and the island of Sa Dragonera (90 minutes one-way), anchor in the bay west of the island, lunch at one of the beach restaurants in Sant Elm (tender ride ashore), and an afternoon stop in Cala Llamp on the way back. A full day, 9–10 hours, 35 nautical miles.

Cabrera day trip: permit only — one of the rare nature reserves with overnight mooring available. Two hours out from Portals, 4–5 hours on site, two hours back. Demanding within a single day, but among the most beautiful experiences in Mediterranean chartering. Several yachts in my portfolio offer dedicated two-day packages for it.

How a charter enquiry works

You send me a short enquiry via the form or by WhatsApp: number of guests, preferred dates, profile (family, friends, business occasion), rough budget. I reply within 24 hours with two or three concrete yacht suggestions from Puerto Portals — with honest pros and cons for each yacht, a note if a more affordable model would suit your particular profile better, and a realistic total-cost estimate including APA and skipper.

The booking becomes binding with a deposit of 30–50%; the balance is due four weeks before the charter begins. The APA is settled at the start of the charter, in cash or by transfer. Cancellation terms vary by yacht and season and are transparent from your first enquiry. Handover of the yacht is in person at the quay in Puerto Portals — if I'm on Mallorca that day, I come by and introduce you to the crew myself. That isn't marketing theatre, that's how we work.

What does a charter yacht from Puerto Portals cost?

Day charters out of Puerto Portals start at €1,200–1,800 for day cruisers up to 45 ft, €3,000–4,500 for 50 ft motor yachts, and €6,500–10,000 for 65–75 ft — all including a skipper. Week charters run €30,000–90,000 in the 60–80 ft class. Berth surcharge in Puerto Portals (high season): roughly €80–110 per metre per day — Mallorca's most expensive marina, but with the best service infrastructure. Fuel, provisioning and harbour fees in guest marinas are billed separately, and on week charters run through the APA (25–30% of the charter fee).

Why cast off from Puerto Portals rather than Palma?

Puerto Portals lies 7 km west of the Palma marinas, which gives it two measurable advantages: 20 minutes less to the quieter west coast (Cala Llamp, Cala Fornells, Andratx) — your charter day effectively starts an hour earlier. And Puerto Portals is a curated marina with the highest concentration of premium charter yachts on Mallorca. Instead of manoeuvring between ferries and megayachts, you board at a quay where everything is within reach. For pure leisure charters I almost always recommend Puerto Portals; for a city charter with restaurants in the old town, Palma is the right call.

How far can I get in a single day from Puerto Portals?

With a 50 ft motor yacht you reach Cala Portals Vells in 30 minutes, Cala Llamp and Cala Fornells in 45, and Sant Elm and the island of Sa Dragonera in 90 minutes. Cabrera (the national park) is a full day trip — 2 hours out, 2 hours back, permit mandatory (I usually apply for it 1–2 weeks before the charter). My standard suggestion for a first charter from Portals: a morning run to Cala Llamp with a snorkelling stop, lunch in a sheltered cove west of Andratx, and an afternoon return via Illetes — a full, relaxed day with no stress.

Which yacht types are available in Puerto Portals?

Puerto Portals is a motor yacht marina. 80 percent of the charter yachts out of Portals are motor — Sunseeker, Princess, Azimut, Sanlorenzo in the 50–80 ft segment. Sailing yachts and catamarans are available too, often home-ported at RCNP or Marina Moll Vell, but the charter handover can be arranged in Puerto Portals. Superyachts above 24 m: some charter yachts are permanently stationed in Portals, others come over from Port Adriano or Club de Mar depending on the season. Which class suits your profile is something we discuss before settling on a specific yacht.

Getting to the yacht: how do I reach Puerto Portals?

From Palma airport (PMI): 20–25 minutes by taxi (€35–45) or hire car. By bus, the 105 runs from Plaça d'Espanya directly to Puerto Portals — about 35 minutes, €4. Parking in Portals is limited — with a hire car I recommend returning it at the airport and arriving by taxi, unless you have a land programme planned. For pre-arrival there are no hotels above 4 stars in Portals Nous itself; nearby options include Castillo Hotel Son Vida, Mardavall, or the quieter Cala Vinyes bay. I plan the handover times together with the yacht's charter manager.

What sets Puerto Portals apart from Port Adriano?

Puerto Portals is the established premium marina since 1986 — luxurious yet informal, with the strongest restaurant and boutique offering on the island right at the quays. Port Adriano (Philippe Starck design, renovated 2012) is the younger superyacht sister: quieter, more exclusive, with its own restaurant programme. For charters under 30 m and a complete marina experience, I recommend Portals. For superyacht charters from 30 m, especially with a permanent crew, Port Adriano is often the better choice — less bustle, wider quays, larger service hangars for tenders and watersports equipment.
